French Riviera France

The French Riviera, or Costa Azul, is globally renowned due to its prominence in film, the unique Monegasque court, and its microclimate protected from the Mediterranean winds. Shielded from the Mistral and Tramontana winds, the coastline of the Var and Alpes-Maritimes departments is one of the most glamorous coastal regions on Earth. It stretches from Hyères in the Var, through Monaco, to the Italian border and San Remo. Due to its geographical uniqueness, the French Riviera enjoys exceptional weather and an outsized reputation. Places like St-Tropez, Cannes, Nice, or Monaco seemingly need no introduction. However, we will provide one anyway to offer a deeper understanding than the brief coverage given by news broadcasts during the Cannes Film Festival. While glamour is a key aspect of the Riviera, it's not the only one. Clearly, those seeking absolute tranquility and a lack of human presence are not heading to the right place. Yet, there are certain spots, mostly away from the coast, where one can find solitude by the sea in a secluded cove, or explore the hidden valleys inland that lead to the Alps, the backbone of the entire Côte d'Azur. The French Riviera is regularly flooded by Parisians in the summer, as well as tourists from around the globe who may know little to nothing about the region. They are drawn by the "charm", allure, and glamour that has been so effectively marketed by the French Riviera.
